Improvements to Balances View in MyNetWorth and iNetWorth

MyNetWorth and its iOS cousin, iNetWorth were inspired by my (happy) experience as a user of Home Accountz for nearly a decade. They are therefore primarily aimed at individual users, who want to manage their personal financial affairs. However, as many of you may already know, I am the Treasurer of a Parochial Church Council (PCC) and I run my PCC’s accounts with MyNetWorth (and iNetWorth on occasions). My PCC’s accounts share much in common with a small business and the reports that I have to produce are very similar to the reports that I used to produce, when I (with the invaluable assistance of my “better half”) ran a Defence Consultancy SME business (for which we used Business Accountz).

Such reports include a Balance Sheet and a Profit & Loss Statement. Whilst I found that I could produce these by generating a series of bespoke reports in the Reports View, it became clear that I could save a lot of time and effort by adding a date filter capability to the Balances View and, furthermore, by also adding the capability to export the Balances View contents to a comma separated variable (CSV) file, particularly if I included entries for Net Worth (Balance Sheet) and Net Gain/Loss (Profit & Loss Statement).

I recently published Version 2.18 of MyNetWorth and Version 2.13 of iNetWorth, both of which (alongside their Preview versions) feature Balances Views that can be filtered by date and whose contents can be exported to CSV files. If you are a sole trader or responsible for the accounts of a small club or charity, you might just find that MyNetWorth and/or iNetWorth provide just the capabilities that you need to run your “business” accounts, alongside your personal ones, as I most definitely do.
