Updates to MyNetWorth (4.3), iNetWorth (4.1) and MyNetWorth for Windows (4.1.103)

The impact of macOS 27 (Golden Gate) on MyNetWorth has, to my great relief, been minimal. I have made a few changes in Version 4.3, one at the request of a user and the others to fix some bugs that have been around for far too long! I have set the width of the Pie Cart Legend in the Balances View to a sensible value, rather than let it fill whatever screen remains to the right of the Pie Chart. The long standing bugs that I have fixed are: to clear the contents of the Amount Text Box in the Edit Accounts, Payees and Schedule Transaction Dialogue Boxes, when the user deletes them, rather than inserting 0.00 and thereby forcing the user to select the entire text and replace it when simply editing an existing amount; to stop the Balances View Pie Chart ignoring Account Group and individual Account balances of less than 50p; and to update the Reports View automatically, whenever transactions are added, edited or deleted in the Accounts and/or Payees Views.

The impact of iOS 27 on iNetWorth has been more significant. On the iPhone Version 4.1 changes the method for viewing split transactions (by populating and opening a standard Edit Accounts/Payees/Scheduled Transaction Dialogue Box, which has the editing buttons and controls disabled, rather than opening a new NavigationLink view) , narrowing the Balances View Pie Chart Legend width (as in MyNetWorth), fills the Ellipsis symbol in the Accounts, Payees and Schedule Views when the Hide Cleared, Set Account Filter and Search Options are active (to keep the user aware of impacts on the displayed transactions table) and fixes the bug (also present in MyNetWorth) that was preventing the Balances View Pie Chart from displaying Account Groups and individual Accounts with balances of less than 50p.

The main impact of iPadOS 27 has been to force me to develop workarounds for the apparently random application of safe areas in iPadOS 27, compared to iPadOS 26. Despite much effort (i.e. several hours of recoding and testing) in developing Version 4.1, the layouts of the Payees and Balances Views are, occasionally, slightly corrupted; however, the errors can be resolved quickly and easily by simply toggling the sidebar visibility (or changing your devices’s orientation). The displays then behave themselves correctly and consistently (until a new file is opened).

As it happens, I have been more than happy to put in this effort as I find that, with the improvements to the windowing of apps in iPadOS 27 that support the use iNetWorth alongside online banking apps on a single screen in Landscape orientation, I am using iNetWorth on my iPad (rather than MyNetWorth on my Mac Mini) more and more. The changes made to iNetWorth on the iPhone, mentioned above, have all been implemented on the iPad, including the new method for viewing split transactions; in fact iPad users can now use a View Option to inspect any transaction, whose contents have been truncated in the transactions tables in all views (apart from the Balances View), without the risk of making unintended changes, which could occur when inspecting them via the Edit Option. Lastly for the iPad, I have fixed two bugs: one that was causing the Cleared symbol to be occluded, when multiple transactions were selected in the Accounts and Payees Detail Views; and another that was restricting the width of the transaction table that was displayed when a device’s orientation was changed from Portrait to Landscape and vice versa without the section header being visible.

I contend that iNetWorth on the iPad now provides a genuinely useful (and thoroughly usable) alternative to MyNetWorth (for Mac and Windows). All of the capabilities offered by MyNetWorth are also available on the iPad (but not the iPad Mini, which, like the iPhone, does not support the import of transactions exported to a CSV file from an online banking website) apart from the ability to import and export MyNetWorth for Windows datafiles.

MyNetWorth for Windows has had a minor update in Version 4.1.103, which clears the Search Text and resets the Hide Cleared Option in transaction tables in the Accounts and Payees Views, whenever the user selects a new Account or Payee.
