MyNetWorth, MyNetWorth for Windows and iNetWorth (together with their Preview and Trial versions) have been updated to improve their usability and reduce the number of interactions needed to enter and edit transactions. The promise to do this appeared in this blog post on some tips and tricks for users of these apps.
iNetWorth was the last member of the NetWorth App Family to be updated, due to the challenges of adding new capabilities within the confines of the screen space available, particularly on an iPhone. As a result the Hide Cleared/Show All Button has disappeared from iNetWorth’s Accounts View. Instead there is a new Ellipsis Button (3 dots in a circle) that opens up a menu with two sub-items: Hide Cleared/Show All; and Select Multiple. The first sub-item replaces the old Hide Cleared/Show All Button. If you tap on the Select Multiple sub-item, you can then select multiple transactions by tapping on them. When you next tap on the Ellipsis Button, the active sub-items become: Hide Cleared/Show All (disabled); Change Date; Toggle Cleared; and Cancel Selection. The Ellipsis Button menu closes after the Hide Cleared/Show All, Select Multiple, Change Date, Toggle Cleared or Cancel Selection action has been completed.
The logic behind adding the capability to change the Date and Cleared status of multiple transactions is twofold. Firstly, multiple Scheduled Transactions are occasionally processed on Bank Holidays, resulting in a set of transactions that all share the wrong date; changing the date of each of them is onerous. Secondly, in iNetWorth toggling the Cleared status of each of a number of transactions is onerous as is double clicking on those transactions in MyNetWorth for Windows. Although, in MyNetWorth for Mac, each transaction’s Cleared status is changed with just a single click, the ability to select a number of transactions and then toggle their Cleared status in a single action is appreciated by some users. The capability to select multiple transactions and change their Date and/or Cleared status concurrently should, hopefully, save users both time and effort.
The capabilities to Duplicate and Schedule existing transactions should frequently help users to avoid having to add new transactions from scratch. That said however, I am about to investigate the feasibility to import transactions exported by online banking apps. I still remain committed to the concept of users actively managing the addition and reconciliation of transactions. However, if a user checks out his or her banking transactions online and recognises them all, the capability to import them could be attractive.
